Ever bought something at Ikea that looked great in the store but not so nice once you got it home?
I've been seeing lots of pillows made from place mats out there in the blogging world and have been dying to make some for myself. Trouble is all of the place mats I've found are either too expensive or not my style. But during my birthday trip to Ikea last weekend I spotted some Snoa Flinga pillow cases I thought would be a good match for only $1 each. At least that's what I thought while I was in the store surrounded by other Scandinavian decor. Once I got them home I wasn't so sure. The darn things are covered in hearts! Ewwww! I'm German; I don't have a heart. What the heck do hearts and what look to be snowflakes have to do with the Halloween theme we have going all year long?
I went ahead and sewed them up anyway and I have to say I'm a little happier with the results than I expected. Still not sure where I'll put them in the house but if nothing else they can be a seasonal thing around Christmas. The fabric is thick and canvas-like and I do like the dark gray color so I'll be sure to get some use out of them. Even if the hearts still make me say "yuck!"

At first glance I didn't see the hearts either! But they were cheap to make and will look nice for winter.
I probably wouldn't have noticed the hearts if you hadn't mentioned them but they're black and white so that trumps everything for me! Maybe you could make a skull applique to put on top?
I agree, I didn't even notice they were hearts until you pointed it out! I hope they grow on you, I really like the black/grey/white!
i don't see hearts... i just see a great graphic pattern. i'm sure they will grow on you.
Very pretty! The placemat fad is in full force! I posted one of my own today too!
I didn't even notice the hearts...was looking at the design between them. Great job.
