Unfortunately, I am old enough to remember seeing the pic you used when it was originally released. It is as painful to see today as it was then. It's almost difficult to comment on your artistic take. I keep going back to the background photo.
Seeing "pain" centered in the eye is a novel take--at least to me!
I like the artistic angle, but I too don't like seeing the picture, and on a different note, I also don't like naked kid pictures on the internet. AGain, I think from an artistic standpoint it's good and 'artsy' though...
